Anika – College Athlete
Her Needs
Running was Anika’s life at the University of Miami – up to 2 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Her Problem
Her season was slowed down by a chronic pull in her calf. Her trainers used ice, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, weight training, agility drills, and told her to stop running for a couple of weeks. But as soon as she started running again, her pain returned.
Her Therapy
Over Christmas break she took her mother’s advice and came to see us. An in-depth examination revealed chronic weakness and inflexibility – her calf problem was in the same leg that suffered a bad ligament tear and ACL reconstruction a few years earlier – predisposing her to an overuse injury. We instituted a simple, aggressive, and effective strength and flexibility program to evenly distribute the forces of the trail. A simple solution to what was actually a pretty simple problem
Her Results
After 3 appointments, she returned to the University of Miami haveing conquered her problem with our help. She went on to have a great season, without any further problems. She graduated in 2008 with her Bachelor of Science degree, and entered the University of Miami Physical Therapy Program!
“Thank you for spending time with her and explaining her injury to her.” – Anika’s Mom
